'Breaking' News???

One would imagine that with the number of news channels increasing, the competition would drive the quality up. Somehow that doesn't seem to be the case.

Over the last month or so when I caught the news, the top stories on the three occasions were:

  • Ram Gopal Varma has chosen Basanti for his Sholay.
  • Abhishek - Aishwarya are engaged.
  • Shilpa Shetty wins Celebrity Big Brother.

Thoughts that crossed my mind:

  1. Either crime has drastically reduced or it has become so commonplace that it doesn't make news anymore.
  2. There's nothing new happening in politics (both local and global), sports, business.
  3. The world has solved all its problems including poverty, global warming, child labor, child abuse, sexual harassment, domestic violence or again, they're taken for granted and do not make news anymore.

Given my state of disillusionment with the Indian media, the Noida killings were actually a relief.

Now that doesn't make me feel very good about myself either. Darn the media. What have they done to me?

CY '07

Another year gone by and already over the habit of writing 2006. Time does fly, and much has flown since I last wrote here.

As 2006 drew to a close and 2007 sauntered in, I couldn't help thinking how different the same time last year was.

  • 2005 ended in a retrospective mode, wondering what went right, what wrong...
    2006 ended looking forward to the coming year(s).

  • 2005 ended wondering where life was headed;
    2006 ended deciding where I wanted my life to head.

  • 2005 ended wondering what was wrong with the world;
    2006 ended figuring what's right with me.

  • 2005 ended feeling miserable in the midst of thousands of people;
    2006 ended enjoying the little pleasures with a select few.

2007 has had a busy start and promises to get busier and more exciting. Will keep you updated periodically.

Hope you had a great 2006 and have a better 2007.
