'Breaking' News???
One would imagine that with the number of news channels increasing, the competition would drive the quality up. Somehow that doesn't seem to be the case.
Over the last month or so when I caught the news, the top stories on the three occasions were:
- Ram Gopal Varma has chosen Basanti for his Sholay.
- Abhishek - Aishwarya are engaged.
- Shilpa Shetty wins Celebrity Big Brother.
Thoughts that crossed my mind:
- Either crime has drastically reduced or it has become so commonplace that it doesn't make news anymore.
- There's nothing new happening in politics (both local and global), sports, business.
- The world has solved all its problems including poverty, global warming, child labor, child abuse, sexual harassment, domestic violence or again, they're taken for granted and do not make news anymore.
Given my state of disillusionment with the Indian media, the Noida killings were actually a relief.
Now that doesn't make me feel very good about myself either. Darn the media. What have they done to me?

I wonder where it is, then?
hahahaha ... u are touching the core ... "manufacturing consent" ... agar sab information tere ko mil jaayegi, what wud be the value of those working on the field and allow them to implement what they think without u interfering in their agenda :) .. they give important information only when they want you to act on it or it is so big that they can't ignore telling you (noida case) ...
need information? - meet the people and read research papers (they are becoming like news)..
one interesting report i came across .. read it if you want to know some interesting information (may have some partisan content) in leisure time ..

"sachar report" search karna
gosh!!! that really touched a raw nerve!!! watching hrs and hrs of Silpa Shetty's humiliation on NDTV was horrifying, whats happened to news !!! why is celebrity news front page, while i was growing up, it was part of the supplemental page. this is just ridiculous!!!
and Shashank i agree that research papers are all around , and all u have to do is search for them. but theres just too much info out there, parsing thru them is a real pain.
Amateur Blogger - u once objected to my anonymous status, do refer to me as "the fish"
@Shashank: Dude, if they were feeding me doctored information, that would be manufacturing consent. With that, the people still think but their opinion in the matter is affected.
This is much more severe. People are made to think about matters which no sane mind should devote bandwidth to. News is not recreation.
I know there's enough information flowing on the internet and news sites do a much better job than television channels. I guess Indian television is turning into "the Idiot Box" as well. Had to happen sometime.
@The Fish:Welcome back! The supplements still contain celebrity news as well. It's all one big celebrity mag now.
ofcourse there are greater issues to be address like delhi is not the centre of the earth, why the hell does delhi unversity get more grants when all they care about politics, jeez reporting is tough aint it? copying from reuters andAP!!
