First proper vacation in years...

After months of intense activity at work, it's time to take a break and when I look back I haven't taken a proper vacation in years. It's not that I don't take time off, but it's usually to go home or to Delhi, time that is usually spent meeting up with people or lounging out at a Barista.

The last trip I can remember which comes closest to the definition of a vacation, was a weekend stop-over in New York. And none for a long time before that either. Over five years spent in Delhi and I can't claim to have visited any of the nearby getaways like Manali or Shimla or anywhere in Uttaranchal, except for a vacation I took with family when I was like 10 or something. I've been thinking about a trip to Goa ever since I landed in Hyderabad, but that's never materialised either.

Letting bygones be bygones, I must thank SMA for getting this trip together. I was so busy with work, that I had to outsource all planning for this trip to him, and dude, I must say you've done a sucky job :).

I wanted it to be a relaxed trip, where we just lounge around doing nothing, unplanned so we have the flexibility to not do anything, but SMA, the activity oriented guy, plans out a hectic schedule for 9 days. My constant badgerings, reports of landslides on our planned route and people dropping out meant that the plans couldn't get implemented. Also, the uncertainty of the impact of the monsoon meant that we wanted the flexibility to go elsewhere in case Rishikesh didn't turn out to be feasible.

So the status 7 hours before we leave for Delhi is this:
The flight to Delhi is booked. The tickets to Rishikesh are not. I haven't even started packing.

As much as I wanted things unplanned, the fact that they are is getting me a little uncomfortable, restless, or is it just a fever coming on, since Murphy's so fond of me. It could also be the nature of my job which makes me want everything planned before going into implementation, or my lack of experience when it comes to vacations. Whatever it is, we're going on vacation and will have a good time.

Dude, good luck!! Have a blast.. the Murphy's bit was hilarious. Anyways, I also like it as unplanned as it can be.... and I take the fun of running around at the last moment as fun. It gives me a great feeling... aur yahin to umar hain yaar aise travel karne ki. bag pack karo and just leave... watch "Harold and Kumar go the White Castle" if you havent seen this flick.
