All's well that ends well...
The day didn't start out too well for me. I woke up much later than I'd wanted or expected to, and although extra sleep is always nice, I'd lost a significant part of the weekend. Not that I had much to do anyways. Yes, life is boring!
Well, so I wasn't in the best of moods and to add to it, most of my friends were busy with Sunday evening things, while I was still at Sunday morning. I needed a hair-cut and I caught myself wondering how much I disliked going for one, and how women are totally the opposite and love going to the parlour when they're in sulky mood. We are different species.
I've often felt I was born in the wrong time zone, but my lone trip to the other side of the planet convinced me that no matter what time zone I'm in, I turn into a nocturnal locally. So I went sat at Barista for a while, alone (you should try the Herbed Chicken Salad, flu or no flu), and spent some alone time with myself introspecting and giving myself a pep talk about how procrastinating on errands was not helping anyone and running them would be better than sitting around pitying oneself.
So, I did something which I've been meaning to do for sometime and just haven't gotten around to it. I went phone shopping. My two-and-a-half year old LG CDMA handset just doesn't have anymore life left in it. It reminds me of Archie's jalopy the way it keeps running out of battery and keeps switching itself off at times to save some. So I got this nice Nokia 6585 CDMA, which was one model higher than what I could have done with but came with a free headset, which is what Nokia seems to make their money on otherwise, so this one seems like a better deal.
The bottom-side of it is that I need to manually transfer all my contacts into the new phone due to the LG-Nokia compatibility, hence, new purpose in life. I don't want to go into a full review of the phone yet, but on the face of it, usability is way better than my chhakra LG, but not even close to my swanky Windows Mobile 5.1 Smartphone, which would seem fair considering the prices of the three, but then I'm not asking for better features, just better usability.
Got kinda off track there. The point I was trying to make was, I went shopping, more in the "I know what I want, let me go get it!" way, rather than the "I wanna go shopping!" (Note: not generalising on gender here, but you know what I mean.) And I was feeling so happy, excited, back in touch with the world by the end of it.
I called up a friend in Bangalore (who'd called up while I was shopping) from my new phone and she was going through pretty much the same thing. "Don't like city. No people here. Will crib." and I thought it was so not fair on her part to steal my favorite rants. Anyways, by the time we were done talking, she sounded much better, and had stepped out to her own friendly-neighbourhood Barista, armed with a book.
I was almost jumping happy by this time, for no apparent reason and then there was "Bunty aur Bubbly" on TV. I just love that movie. I think it's one of the best Indian movies ever made, and I've seen enough for that to mean something. Add to that, Paneer Paranthas on the plate and life couldn't have been better.
I guess it's the little pleasures in life that make all the difference, cos the big ones only come by very rarely, and it's boring waiting for them. And even though I'm being all cliched, I know it's a fair chance I'll be down again next weekend and all this will seem farce and that certain systemic changes are needed, but at least for today I can say all's well that ends well.

Beautiful lines : "I guess it's the little pleasures in life that make all the difference, cos the big ones only come by very rarely, and it's boring waiting for them." And was just remembering your winning performance at the Intra-hostel quiz four years ago. That was fun!!!
Thanks man.
Had totally forgotten about the quiz. That intra-hostel cult-fest was quite eventful anyways. :)
